چکیده مقاله
The current mathematics curriculum of engineering undergraduates in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) system. Due to rapidly increasing changes in Malaysian industries and their needs, UTM tries to improve their educational programs to provide qualified engineers based on the needs of the workplace. This paper presents a proposed conceptual framework for mathematics curriculum of undergraduate engineering faculties to make explicit mathematical competencies (MCs) within intended learning outcomes (ILOs) to enhance the outcomes of mathematics engineering education. The interface between mathematics curriculum elements and MCs components will reduce the gap between required MCs of graduate engineers at the workplace and acquired MCs of engineering students before their graduation. In this paper a mathematical competence framework and how a mathematics curriculum should be developed with respect to mathematical competencies based on an engineer's workplace demands is sketched.
