This chapter contains an efficient and high-accuracy computational method based upon general Lagrange scaling functions (GLSFs) together with an optimization method for solving a class of fractional epidemic models named fractional SIR model. Then, a Riemann-Liouville pseudo-operational matrix for these functions is proposed using the piecewise Taylor functions. Next, we use the pseudo-operational matrix and an optimization method to obtain the approximate solutions of mentioned problem. Furthermore, we estimate the error of approximation in the Sobolev norm. To confirm the superiority and accuracy of the present technique, the numerical results are displayed through tables and figures. Besides, to examine the importance of the subject, epidemic models of integer and noninteger order are studied from a bibliographic perspective. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
