This chapter details the various enzymes used for the biodegradation of micro- and nanoplastics. In this chapter, the advantages of enzymatic approaches over conventional methods are presented. The mechanism of enzyme-catalyzed degradation of plastics is discussed, and examples of biodegradation of synthetic polymers using various enzymes are detailed. © 2024 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
