N-isocyaniminotriphenylphosphorane as an efficient reagent for the synthesis of disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles via in-situ generation of sterically congested iminophosphorane derivatives

Reaction of N-isocyaniminotriphenylphosphorane with benzaldehyde derivatives in the presence of 3-phenyl-2-propynoic acid and secondary amines proceeds smoothly at room temperature and under neutral conditions to afford sterically congested 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives in high yields. The reaction proceeds smoothly and cleanly under mild conditions and no side reactions are observed. Copyright © 2012 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
