چکیده مقاله

The treatment and management of wastewater pose critical environmental challenges, with traditional methods often facing limitations in effectively addressing certain types of pollutants. This review explores the integration of bioremediation and physico-chemical methods as a promising solution to overcome these limitations and achieve more efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment. Bioremediation, utilizing microorganisms or plants to degrade pollutants, and physico-chemical methods, involving physical and chemical processes, are shown to complement each other, leading to improved pollutant removal efficiency and resource recovery. The integration of these methods offers numerous benefits, including enhanced pollutant removal efficiency, reduced chemical usage, and the potential for resource recovery through the generation of energy-rich biogas and valuable by-products. Furthermore, successful implementation of integrated bioremediation and physico-chemical methods in various wastewater treatment scenarios is highlighted, demonstrating their effectiveness in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable wastewater management. Despite the challenges and limitations associated with integrated approaches, ongoing research, and technological advancements are poised to drive continual improvement in wastewater treatment practices. Overall, the integration of bioremediation and physico-chemical methods presents a comprehensive and sustainable approach, offering opportunities for resource recovery and contributing to environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
