چکیده مقاله

A green belt is a designated area encircling a city or town, established to curb urban expansion. This zone is typically safeguarded from development through policy measures or legal statutes and serves as a space for leisure, agricultural activities, and wildlife conservation. The concept of a circular bioeconomy is rooted in ecological principles, advocating for an economic system that harnesses renewable resources and strives to reduce waste. This model seeks to supplant a broad array of nonrenewable, fossil-fuel-derived products with sustainable alternatives. Regions such as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), also known as West Asia and North Africa, frequently face challenges related to drought and soil salinity. Haloculture is an innovative approach that leverages saline environments to foster economic growth in areas impacted by salt. This method holds promise for the management, adaptation, and enhancement of green belts within the MENA region. Utilizing the PRISMA framework, this chapter introduces and explores the potential of haloculture technology as a means to reinforce green belts and promote a circular bioeconomy in the MENA region. Ultimately, it presents various educational strategies, specifically pedagogical content knowledge pathways, to advance the adoption of haloculture technology in the region. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd.
